ABOUT ESSENCE ART

I have always been artistic and involved in various creative projects and courses over the years. Back in the 1970’s I spent many happy hours undertaking evening and day courses at the Camden Institute in London and this was where I first encountered a range of arts and crafts including textiles, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, etching and fine art. This interest has stayed with me throughout the years and is the basis for my multi-disciplinary approach today.

I originally trained as a teacher specialising in Dance and Drama.  At the start of my working life, in the late 60’s – 70’s I was involved in the performance arts, working for various different theatre and television companies around the country in a production capacity. Then, over the following years I pursued various employment opportunities, mostly within an educational environment, and had a portfolio career.

On returning to Wales in 2003 I rediscovered printmaking and developed my skills by visiting studios and undertaking courses run in both the UK and Italy. As a member of the Aberystwyth Printmakers and the Swansea Print Workshop I exhibited widely with both organisations, in the UK and overseas. In addition I have been involved in both solo and group exhibitions with my work on display in galleries in England and Wales.

To further broaden my skills I completed a BA Art and Design – Multi-Disciplinary degree course with a focus on Textiles, Ceramics and Glass in Carmarthen School of Art (2015), and pursued a Fine Art MA in Aberystwyth University (2018) with a focus on painting, printmaking and photography.
